Spring and Summer Clothing Intake

It is time to empty a lot of hangers to make room for the spring and summer clothing!

We will accept spring and summer clothing beginning Monday February 14 (Valentine’s Day) through Saturday February 19th ONLY - during that one week only.

Other items may be dropped off with your clothing or at any time.

Due to the economy our items are in huge demand. People who never consigned, and who never before bought used, are discovering what we have always known: Buying used and recycling makes SENSE and makes CENTS! Sales continue to increase but our shoppers are pickier about how they spend money. Your items now compete with an enormous number of items on the resale market. Space is limited so while the economy falters we request only the best of the best. Items should be in clean “ready for sale” condition.

Please bring items in cardboard boxes only. We regret that we can no longer accept items in trash bags or plastic bins. Please ensure your account number is placed on the outside and the inside of the box, to prevent “orphan” inventory. You may print your account number onto masking tape to place on equipment, large toys and other large items.

Want to ensure your items are worth more?

We want you to make more money!

Place clean folded clothing in a box, with all buttons and snaps closed. Fold or safety pin items which are an outfit, together.

(Clothing in bags moves around and may not remain as “outfits.” Items do not stay folded and creases set in before they can be placed on hangers. Clothing which is ready to price, in boxes, is easier to process and gets put out first and sells first!)

For the spring/summer intake, do not include fall and winter clothing: polar fleece, velvet, velour, most corduroy, Hallowe’en and Christmas items – we will accept those items in July. Fall and winter clothing will be rejected. Clothing with sizing tags removed, broken zippers, broken snaps, stains or damage will be rejected.

Spring and summer clothing includes: lightweight jackets, rubber boots, bathing suits, water shoes, beachwear, shorts and t-shirts, Capri's, lightweight and Easter dresses, summer hats, spring jackets, and sandals. Jeans and lightweight zip-front hoodies accepted.

Stains can appear long after clothing has been packed due to aging sugars from formula, juice and food. Breastmilk does not yellow fabric with age. Breastfed baby’s clothing is worth an average of 20% more than formula fed baby’s clothing.

Keep toy parts together by placing them in zipper gas or shopping bags tied shut. Large toys with can have bags containing smaller pieces taped onto them. Similar toys (play food, dolls clothes, dinosaurs, dinky cars) can be grouped together in bags.

Equipment and toys are worth more if manuals are included! On top of that - original packaging makes your items more valuable and can sometimes add $5-10 or more to the price! The purchaser’s perception is that the item was cared for well. Used items will often be purchased for baby shower gifts – if it comes with a manual and the original box!

Clean toys sell quicker and for more money. “Magic erasers” clean rub marks and crayon from plastic toys, follow with a clean water rinse to remove any residue.

Although we can accept working electronics such as video game systems, TVs, Ipods and gaming systems – things kids want - we cannot accept general household items. If you aren’t sure whether we accept a special item, just ask us!

Items always in demand: non-recalled cribs, or those with a retrofit kit and paperwork (not installed), playpens, potty seats and rings, high chairs, feeding booster seats, carseats/booster seats for toddlers and preschoolers (not expired), bassinets, jumperoos, jolly jumpers, mega-exersaucers.

Join us on Facebook under “BabyBoom Trading Postto keep up with our in-stock hard-to-find and most-wanted items.

Please Note that BabyBoom will be closed this Wednesday the 26th for medical appointments in London.

"We Keep The Cost Of Growing Up Down"

Car Seat Inspections & Installing

We do inspections by appointment only. This service is free if you have purchased your seat from BabyBoom. We do free inspections via the Health unit in cooperation with the OPP several times a year at different locations in Huron. Check with us for the next Clinic. Below are some guidelines to follow. Thanks, Dave & Theresa

What type of car seat should I use?

  • Infants should be in rear-facing car seats until they are at least 1 year of age and weigh 10 kg (22 lb). Rear-facing car seats should be used as long as your child meets the weight and height limits in the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • When your child is 10 kg (22 lb), and is older than 12 months, use a forward-facing car seat. Use it until your child is at least 18 kg (40 lb). Forward-facing car seats with higher weight limits are now available (up to 30 kg [65 lb]) for larger toddlers and preschool-aged children.
  • When your child is at least 18 kg (40 lb), he can move to a booster seat.
  • Don’t use your car’s regular seat belt until it fits your child correctly. This is usually when your child is approximately 36 kg (80 lb) in weight, and 145 cm (4 feet 9 inches) tall.
  • All children younger than 13 years of age should ride in the back seat of the car.

A Infant seat with base B ‘3-in-1’ convertible seat – infant/ child/booster seat C Infant/child/booster seat D Child/booster seat E Backless booster seat F High-back booster seat G Combination (child/booster) seat – belt-positioning booster seat mode.

Before using your car seat:

  • Keep a copy of the manufacturer’s instructions in your car and follow them carefully. As many as 80% to 90% of car seats are used incorrectly.
  • Make sure the car seat is right for your child’s weight and height.
  • The best place for a car seat is in the middle of the back seat.
  • When installed, the car seat should move no more than 2.5 cm (1 inch) forward or side to side.
  • Check whether your local fire, police or public health department has a car seat clinic where you can make sure your car seats are properly installed.

How do I use an infant or rear-facing car seat?

  • Your car may have the Universal Anchorage System (UAS or LATCH [lower anchors and tethers for children]). It is now mandatory in all new models.
  • Check your vehicle owner’s manual for the seating positions that can be used with the UAS. Secure the car seat using the UAS or the vehicle seat belt, carefully following the vehicle manual and the car seat instructions.
  • In some vehicles you need to use a locking clip with the seat belt to securely install a rear-facing car seat.
  • The seat should be positioned at a 45° angle. If you can’t do this because of the slope of the vehicle’s seat, use a firm roll of cloth (sheet or towel) or a ‘pool noodle’ under the seat.

To secure your baby:

  • The harness straps must be snug and threaded at or just below your baby’s shoulders.
  • The chest clip should be at armpit level.
  • If more than one finger fits between the shoulder harness and your baby’s collarbone, the harness is too loose.
  • The seat handle should be in the position recommended by the manufacturer.

If you use an infant carrier outside of the vehicle:

  • Keep your child buckled in.
  • Don’t put the seat on a raised surface, such as a table, because it may fall.
  • Don’t leave your baby in a car seat to sleep.

How do I use a forward-facing car seat?

  • A top tether strap must be used on all forward-facing child seats. A tether strap is attached to the top of the car seat and fastened to an anchor that is bolted to the vehicle.
  • Install the car seat using the tether strap and a seat belt or using the tether strap and the UAS.
  • You will need one tether anchor for each child seat used in the vehicle.
  • If your vehicle doesn’t have a tether anchor, ask your vehicle dealer to install one.
  • Thread the seat belt or UAS strap through the child seat as shown in the seat’s instructions.
  • Use your knee to push down on the child seat while you tighten the seat belt or UAS strap.
  • Attach the tether strap to hold the top of the child seat in place and tighten the strap.
  • In some vehicles, you will need to use a locking clip with the seat belt to securely install a forward-facing child seat.

To secure your toddler:

  • The harness straps should be at or slightly above your child’s shoulders.
  • Only one finger should fit between the harness strap and your child’s collarbone.
  • The chest clip should be at armpit level.

How do I use a booster seat?

  • The shoulder portion of the seat belt should be positioned over the middle of the collarbone so that it does not touch your child’s neck.
  • The lap belt should be over the hips (pelvic bones), away from the stomach.
  • Your child should be able to bend her knees comfortably over the edge of the seat.
  • Buckle the seat belt across the booster seat even when your child isn’t with you. This will keep the seat in place during a collision or sudden stop.

When should I replace my child seat?

  • Many car seats now have expiry dates on them because of ‘plastic fatigue’ (parts get more brittle or break easily).
  • Replace the seat when it has reached the expiry date. If there is no expiry date, replace the seat if it is 10 years old or if it shows any cracks or damage in the plastic.
  • Never use a car seat that has been in a car crash, even a minor one.

Are there any other safety tips?

  • Don’t use any add-on features for car seats that are not provided by the manufacturer, such as a bunting bag, head-hugger, tray or comfort strap. These can affect the safety of the seat and can be dangerous in a collision.
  • If it is cold, tuck a blanket over your child after he is secured. Don’t put anything under or behind his body.
  • Never leave your child alone in the car.
  • Always ensure that the locking clip remains attached to the car seat when the UAS is used to secure the seat. This allows for the clip to be available if the seat needs to be secured into a vehicle that doesn’t have the UAS.
  • Fill out and mail the registration card that comes with your child’s car seat. If there is a recall, the company will be able to contact you.

4. Simplicity Drop Side Cribs Recalled by Retailers Due to Risk of Death from Suffocation.
Units: About 400,000
Importer/Distributor: Simplicity Inc. and SFCA Inc. of Reading, Pa. (The firms appear to no longer conduct day to day operations.)
Hazard: The crib's plastic hardware can break or deform, causing the drop side to detach. When the drop side detaches, it creates space between the drop side and the crib mattress. Infants and toddlers can roll into this space and become entrapped which can lead to suffocation.
Incidents/Injuries: CPSC is aware of one death involving an 8-month-old child from Houston, Texas who became entrapped and suffocated between the drop side and the crib mattress when a plastic connector on the drop side broke. The child's death was previously reported by CPSC. CPSC also is aware of an additional 25 incidents involving the drop side detaching from the crib. In six of these incidents, the drop side detached because the plastic flexible tab deformed or broke. In four of the drop side detachment incidents, other plastic parts, including connectors or tracks, deformed or broke. In two of the incidents, two children became entrapped between the drop side and the crib mattress. There were no reported injuries.
Description: This recall involves all drop side cribs with a different or "newer" style of plastic hardware from those cribs recalled in September 2007. This newer style of Simplicity hardware can be identified by a flexible plastic tab at the top of the lower tracks. The recalled model numbers include but may not be limited to: 8050, 8325, 8620, 8745, 8748, 8755, 8756, 8765, 8778, 8810, and 8994, 8995, 8996.
Sold at: Department stores, children's stores, and mass merchandisers nationwide from January 2005 through June 2009 for between $150 and $300.
Manufactured in: China
Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled cribs and find an alternative, safe sleeping environment for their baby. Consumers should immediately return the crib to the place of purchase for a refund, replacement or store credit.

Issue:
Elfe Juvenile Products and Transport Canada wish to inform the public of an error on the National Safety Mark label affixed to the side of the Nautilus child/booster seat. The National Safety Mark (NSM) is the round label with a maple leaf and the designated manufacturer/importer identifier number in the centre. This label also indicates the specific Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard(s) (CMVSS) with which the children's restraint system complies. The NSM that has been affixed to the Nautilus child/booster indicates that the seat complies only with the booster cushion standard (CMVSS 213.2), whereas the NSM should state compliance with both the booster cushion standard and the child seat standards (CMVSS 213, 213.2). The corrected NSM will reflect the full certification status of the product and allow consumers to use the product as intended by the manufacturer, as indicated in the instruction manual and other labeling affixed to the child/booster seat.
Safety Risk: The incorrect NSM will not affect the safety of the child/booster seat.

Cosco and Eddie Bauer Products Harness Slippage Amendment

Cosco Adventurer - 2209CBNG, Cosco Ventura DX - 2249CFLG
Eddie Bauer CRS/HBB - 2258CSHL, 2285CEBN, 2285CMBP, 2289CAFD, 2289CARD, 2289CBGL, 2289CBLD, 2289CHLT, 2289CHML, 2289CMAC
Dates of Manufacture: November 1, 2003 - December 31, 2005 inclusive
Number of Units: 79, 254
Issue: When in the forward-facing mode, the harness system that holds the child into the child seat can loosen. The resulting slack in the harness system reduces the effectiveness of the child seat in the event of a motor vehicle collision and increases the head excursion of the child.
Safety Risk: Should the harness system loosen, the child would not be fully protected in the event of a motor vehicle collision. The prescribed limit on the amount of forward head excursion that can be experienced by the crash test dummy during dynamic testing helps to reduce the risk of injury that a child occupant may incur as a result of contact with vehicle interior surfaces during a motor vehicle collision. The loosening of the harness system and subsequent excessive movement of the child's body and head could lead to serious injury.
